What will I learn?
You will build a complete foundation in avalanche science, starting with snow physics and weak-layer mechanics and advancing through weather interpretation, terrain analysis, and snowpack field testing. You will learn to read public avalanche forecasts, apply structured decision frameworks, and plan routes that reduce your exposure to hazard. Rescue skills cover beacon search phases, probing strategy, efficient shoveling techniques, and post-burial patient care. Human factors training helps you recognise cognitive biases and group pressure that lead to poor decisions in the field. By the end, you will have the knowledge and practical skills to travel in avalanche terrain with measurably greater safety.
