Hematology and Circulatory Physiology Course
This course equips learners with essential knowledge in haematology and circulatory physiology for acute care settings. Participants will gain skills to confidently interpret coagulation tests, troponin levels, imaging, and haemodynamic data to diagnose conditions like venous thromboembolism, pulmonary embolism, myocardial infarction, anaemia, and shock at the bedside. It emphasises practical physiologic reasoning for triage, monitoring, and targeted diagnostics in emergencies.

What will I learn?
Gain a focused overview of venous thromboembolism, pulmonary embolism, acute coronary syndromes, anaemia, and emergency haemodynamics. Develop skills to interpret coagulation tests, troponin, D-dimer, complete blood count, blood gases, and imaging; integrate point-of-care ultrasound; and apply physiologic principles for effective triage, monitoring, and diagnostic strategies in acute patient presentations.

- Master VTE and PE physiology using Virchow triad and right ventricular strain in clinical settings.
- Interpret key coagulation and ACS labs including D-dimer, PT/INR, aPTT, troponin, and CK-MB.
- Apply focused echocardiography and point-of-care ultrasound to evaluate RV strain, IVC, lung signs, and shock.
- Optimise emergency department testing by selecting targeted labs and imaging based on physiology.
- Manage anaemia and oxygen delivery with appropriate transfusion timing, iron therapy, and monitoring.
