What Will I Learn?
You will develop a thorough understanding of baroque dance technique, covering posture, turnout, and the full core step vocabulary used across the historical repertoire. You will learn to read Beauchamp-Feuillet notation and translate written scores into performed choreography. The course covers social and theatrical dance forms, including the minuet, contredanse, and solo theatrical entrée. You will study how baroque music structures such as meter, phrasing, and affect directly shape movement quality. Additional modules address period costume, primary source research, body conditioning, and the pedagogy skills needed to teach baroque dance to others.
