What will I learn?
The General Entomology Course gives you practical skills to design a realistic study area, map land use, and interpret climate and habitat data for a 50-hectare reserve. You will assess agricultural impacts on insect diversity, select target orders and taxa using global databases, master order-level taxonomy and morphology, and apply robust monitoring, data management, and conservation actions tailored to farmland-adjacent habitats.
Elevify advantages
Develop skills
- Design entomological study sites: map habitats, land use, and climate context.
- Identify insect orders in the field: use keys, microscopes, and voucher photos.
- Analyze farming impacts on insects: pesticides, fragmentation, and pollution.
- Build rapid insect monitoring plans: sampling design, data standards, and QC.
- Select indicator taxa: use museum, citizen-science, and online taxonomic data.
