What will I learn?
You will build a complete understanding of cellular energy metabolism, starting with thermodynamics and ATP synthesis and progressing through carbohydrate, lipid, and amino acid catabolism. You will learn how the electron transport chain generates ATP and how uncoupling proteins and reactive oxygen species affect mitochondrial efficiency. The course covers hormonal regulation by insulin and glucagon, tissue-specific fuel preferences, and the metabolic shifts that occur during feeding, fasting, and exercise. You will also study mitochondrial biogenesis, AMPK and mTOR signalling, and the bioenergetic basis of metabolic disease. Applied chapters connect pathway science directly to athletic performance, body composition, and evidence-based nutrition strategies.
