What will I learn?
This Numerical Methods Course takes you through modelling an axially loaded steel column, deriving the nonlinear governing equation, and choosing effective root-finding algorithms. You will practise implementing Newton–Raphson, bisection, and secant methods, set proper stopping criteria, carry out sensitivity and uncertainty analysis, verify results, and clearly communicate final stresses, deformations, and safety checks in a professional manner.
Elevify advantages
Develop skills
- Interpret numerical stress results: turn raw outputs into clear decisions.
- Apply root-finding methods: use Newton, secant, and bisection with confidence.
- Model steel columns: link stress, strain, and thermal effects in compact formulas.
- Implement iterations in code: write and verify fast, stable solvers for f(u)=0.
- Perform sensitivity and safety checks: quantify uncertainty and factors of safety.
