What will I learn?

You will learn to write electron configurations using standard spdf notation, condensed noble gas shorthand, and orbital box diagrams for elements across the entire periodic table. You will master the Aufbau principle, Pauli exclusion principle, and Hund's rule, and apply them to neutral atoms, cations, and anions. The course covers periodic trends including atomic radius, ionization energy, electron affinity, and effective nuclear charge. You will analyze d-block exceptions such as chromium and copper, and extend your skills to lanthanide and actinide configurations. Finally, you will connect configuration knowledge to chemical bonding, spectroscopy, semiconductor doping, catalysis, and energy storage materials.
