What will I learn?

This Ship Welder Training Programme offers practical training in welding ship hulls safely and to required standards. Participants learn about hull steel types, selecting plate thicknesses, managing corrosion, setting up FCAW, GMAW and SMAW processes, matching consumables, creating welding procedures, preparing joints, controlling distortion, conducting non-destructive tests, maintaining records, and following hot work safety rules to produce durable, compliant welds ready for inspection.

  • Select marine steel: pick suitable hull plate grades, thicknesses and preheating quickly.
  • Master ship welding: use FCAW, GMAW and SMAW for fabricating hull components.
  • Conduct weld quality checks: apply visual, ultrasonic, magnetic particle and penetrant testing to ship standards.
  • Prepare hull joints: set up butt and fillet welds with proper fit-up and welding parameters.
  • Control distortion: apply welding sequences, clamps and back-gouging to maintain hull alignment.
