What will I learn?
You'll start by understanding clay types, studio safety, and essential tools, then move into hand-building methods including pinch, coil, and slab construction. From there, you'll develop wheel throwing skills, learning to center clay and pull consistent walls for cylinders, bowls, and plates. You'll explore surface decoration using carving, slip, underglaze painting, and texture techniques. The course also covers drying stages, bisque firing, glaze chemistry, and proper kiln loading. Supplementary chapters introduce alternative firing methods, ceramic sculpture, design principles, and even the basics of running a studio business.
