What will I learn?
This course covers every essential dimension of Carnatic music, starting with the saptaswaras, sruti, and tala fundamentals before advancing to raga theory, gamakas, and full compositions. You will train your voice through sarali varisai, janta varisai, and alankara exercises, then apply that technique to kritis and varnams. The 72-melakarta classification system, raga lakshana, and improvisation methods including alapana, niraval, and kalpana swara are all taught in depth. You will also explore devotional lyrical traditions, ensemble awareness, and concert preparation.
