Beginner Women’s Boxing Course

Step into the ring with confidence and the skills to back it up. This beginner women's boxing course takes you from zero experience to controlled sparring, covering everything from stance and footwork to combinations and ring strategy. You will train smart, stay safe, and build real fighting ability from day one.

What you will learn:

You will start by building the physical foundation and safety habits every boxer needs, including proper hand wrapping, injury prevention, and warm-up protocols. From there, you will develop a solid stance, fluid footwork, and all four core punches with correct mechanics. You will master defensive techniques like slipping, rolling, and parrying, then chain everything into combinations and counters. Bag work, pad drills, and solo training methods give you the tools to practise effectively on your own. Supplementary modules cover nutrition for female athletes, strength and conditioning, mental toughness, and self-defence applications. By the final chapter, you will be ready to enter controlled sparring with a game plan and the composure to execute it.

Teaches a structured pre-training warm-up sequence targeting boxing-specific muscle groups. Prepares joints and cardiovascular system for technical work.

  • Lesson 3 • Understanding the Boxing Environment

Introduces gym layout, equipment types, and unwritten rules of conduct. Establishes the cultural and safety context for all future training.

  • Lesson 4 • Core and Conditioning Baseline

Assesses and builds the foundational strength needed to execute boxing movements safely. Targets core stability, leg endurance, and upper-body control.

  • Lesson 5 • Injury Prevention and Body Awareness

Covers common boxing injuries and how to avoid them through proper mechanics. Connects anatomical awareness to safe training habits.

Chapter 2See details

Stance, Footwork, and Balance

  • Lesson 1 • Building the Boxing Stance

Defines the structural elements of a sound boxing stance for women's body mechanics. Correct stance is the prerequisite for every technique in the course.

  • Lesson 2 • Linear Footwork Patterns

Introduces forward, backward, and lateral stepping using the push-step method. Builds the movement vocabulary needed for attack and defence.

  • Lesson 3 • Pivots and Angles

Teaches pivot mechanics to create offensive angles and exit danger zones. Pivots are the foundation of ring generalship introduced in later chapters.

  • Lesson 4 • Balance Under Pressure

Develops stability when absorbing contact or moving at speed through reactive drills. Directly prepares students for partner work in upcoming chapters.

  • Lesson 5 • Orthodox vs. Southpaw Stances

Compares lead-hand configurations and explains how dominant hand determines stance choice. Students identify their natural stance and begin drilling it.

Chapter 3See details

Core Punching Techniques

  • Lesson 1 • The Uppercut: Inside Fighting Tool

Covers the vertical punch mechanics used at close range to target the chin and body. Prepares students for inside-fighting scenarios introduced in Chapter 6.

  • Lesson 2 • The Cross: Power Generation

Teaches hip rotation, rear-heel drive, and weight transfer to maximise cross power. Builds on stance mechanics from Chapter 2 to link body and punch.

  • Lesson 3 • The Jab: Speed and Setup

Breaks down jab mechanics from shoulder rotation to full extension and retraction. The jab is the most-used punch and anchors all combinations taught later.

  • Lesson 4 • Shadow Boxing for Technique Drilling

Uses solo shadow boxing to reinforce all four punches with correct form and flow. Develops visualisation habits and smooth punch transitions.

  • Lesson 5 • The Hook: Arc and Timing

Develops the horizontal arc punch using elbow angle and torso rotation. Introduces the concept of punch timing relative to opponent positioning.

Chapter 4See details

Defensive Fundamentals

  • Lesson 1 • The High Guard and Its Variations

Establishes the default defensive shell and its adjustments for body and head protection. Guard position is the starting point for every defensive technique.

  • Lesson 2 • Slipping Punches

Teaches lateral head movement to avoid straight punches while staying in range. Slipping sets up counter-punching opportunities covered in Chapter 5.

  • Lesson 3 • Covering and Clinching Safely

Teaches the full cover for absorbing unavoidable shots and safe clinch entry. Provides a last-resort defensive option for high-pressure situations.

  • Lesson 4 • Rolling Under Hooks

Develops the U-shaped rolling motion to evade hooks and set up body shots. Rolling requires the hip flexibility built in Chapter 1 warm-up protocols.

  • Lesson 5 • Parrying and Redirecting Punches

Introduces hand parries to deflect jabs and crosses with minimal energy expenditure. Parrying creates openings for the counter combinations in Chapter 5.

Chapter 5See details

Basic Combinations and Counter-Punching

  • Lesson 1 • Three and Four-Punch Combinations

Extends combinations to include hooks, uppercuts, and body shots in sequence. Develops endurance and coordination for sustained offensive output.

  • Lesson 3 • Pad Work for Combination Drilling

Introduces structured pad-holding and hitting protocols to drill combinations with a partner. Develops accuracy, power, and timing against a moving target.

  • Lesson 4 • Counter-Punching Off the Parry

Links parry deflections to immediate offensive responses using the openings created. Reinforces the parry mechanics from Chapter 4 in a live-fire context.

  • Lesson 5 • Counter-Punching Off the Slip

Combines the slip from Chapter 4 with immediate counter punches to exploit openings. Trains the reflex to transition from defence to offence instantly.

Chapter 6See details

Bag Work and Solo Training Methods

Develops hand speed, eye-hand coordination, and rhythmic striking on the speed bag. Trains the fast-twitch muscle response needed for quick combinations.

  • Lesson 2 • Designing a Solo Training Session

Guides students in structuring a complete solo workout with warm-up, bag rounds, and cool-down. Builds training autonomy for practice outside class.

  • Lesson 4 • Reading and Reacting to an Opponent

Develops the ability to read telegraphed punches and react with appropriate defence or counter. Applies the feinting and range skills from Chapter 6.

  • Lesson 5 • Receiving and Using Coaching Feedback
