What will I learn?
You will study American literature from its Indigenous oral traditions and Puritan origins through Romanticism, Realism, Modernism, and into contemporary multicultural and postmodern writing. You will learn how to read texts closely, identify literary techniques, and place works within their historical and cultural contexts. You will practise writing analytical essays with clear theses and properly cited evidence. You will also engage with major critical theories, including feminist, postcolonial, and Marxist approaches, to deepen your interpretations.
