No experience is needed, just the willingness to show up and go for it.
What you will learn:
In this course, you will build a solid foundation in hip hop dance from the ground up. You will start by training your body to feel and respond to the beat, then learn core moves like popping, locking, the Dougie, and the Running Man. You will develop upper-body styling, footwork patterns, and the coordination to put it all together. By the end, you will rehearse and perform a complete beginner choreography to a full song. You will also get an introduction to freestyle so you can hold your own in any social dance setting. On top of the movement skills, you will learn the history and culture of hip hop so you understand what you are dancing and why it matters.

Body Awareness and Physical Preparation
Lesson 1 • Posture and Neutral Alignment
Teaches correct standing posture and spinal alignment as the baseline for all movement. Prevents compensatory habits that cause injury.
Lesson 2 • Stretching and Cool-Down
Covers static stretching protocols for post-class recovery. Reduces soreness and maintains long-term joint health for consistent training.
Lesson 3 • Dynamic Warm-Up Routines
Guides learners through movement-based warm-ups targeting hips, knees, and shoulders. Prepares the body specifically for hip hop demands.
Lesson 4 • Isolations as Body Control
Introduces moving one body part independently while others stay still. Isolation control is the technical foundation of popping and new-school styles.

Rhythm, Timing, and Musicality
Lesson 1 • The Bounce and the Groove
Teaches the foundational hip hop bounce—a subtle knee-driven pulse that keeps the body in rhythm. This groove underlies every style.
Lesson 2 • Musicality and Interpretation
Develops the ability to respond to melody, lyrics, and dynamics—not just the beat. Learners begin making intentional artistic choices.
Lesson 3 • Syncopation and Off-Beat Accents
Introduces hitting movements on the 'and' counts and off-beats. Adds rhythmic complexity and stylistic flavour to basic steps.
Lesson 4 • Clapping and Counting on Beat
Uses clapping exercises to internalise the beat before adding footwork. Builds the rhythmic foundation all choreography depends on.

Foundational Footwork and Steps
Lesson 1 • The Running Man and Variations

Lesson 2 • Combining Steps into Phrases
Links two or three steps into short 8-count phrases. Introduces the concept of choreographic sequencing at a beginner level.
Lesson 3 • Weight Shifting and Steps
Teaches controlled weight transfer between feet as the basis of all footwork. Correct weight shifts prevent stumbling and enable clean transitions.
Lesson 4 • Travelling Across the Floor
Applies learned steps to directional travel: forward, back, diagonal, and lateral. Prepares learners for spatial use in choreography.
Lesson 5 • The Bounce Step and Stomp
Introduces bounce-based steps and weighted stomps that emphasise the downbeat. Builds rhythmic grounding and lower-body strength.
Chapter 5HideHide detailsSee detailsUpper Body Movement and Arm Styling
Upper Body Movement and Arm Styling
Lesson 1 • Arm Paths and Shapes
Teaches deliberate arm trajectories—straight, curved, and angular. Intentional arm paths define the visual sharpness of hip hop style.
Lesson 2 • Hand and Wrist Articulation
Focuses on finger placement, wrist rolls, and hand shapes that complete the look of arm movements. Details that separate polished from sloppy execution.
Lesson 3 • Chest and Shoulder Styling
Applies chest pops and shoulder rolls as expressive upper-body accents. Connects upper-body styling to the groove established in earlier chapters.
Lesson 4 • Co-ordinating Arms with Footwork
Integrates arm styling with previously learned footwork patterns. Co-ordination between upper and lower body is the central challenge here.

Lesson 3 • Popping Fundamentals

Lesson 4 • Locking Fundamentals
Introduces the lock, point, and wrist roll from locking style. Adds a distinct flavour and sharpness to the learner's growing vocabulary.
