What will I learn?

You will learn how boost converters step up voltage using inductors, switches, and diodes, and how to derive the voltage conversion ratio from volt-second balance. The course covers continuous and discontinuous conduction modes, critical inductance calculations, and complete component selection procedures. You will quantify every major power loss, calculate efficiency, and size heatsinks for thermal compliance. Control loop design takes you through small-signal modelling, transfer function derivation, and compensator design using Bode plot analysis. Advanced topics include interleaved boost stages, bridgeless power factor correction, and soft-switching topologies.
